*McAfee VirusScan Mobile is no longer available as a standalone option, but is bundled as part of McAfee's "Triple Play" service in McAfee Total Protection and McAfee Internet Security.
McAfee has several security solutions for home use, small businesses, and even enterprise users. Their personal mobile security software, VirusScan Mobile, is decent, but doesn’t have what it takes to make it great.
McAfee VirusScan Mobile combines antivirus protection with tools to reduce spam. The software runs in the background and in real-time requiring minimal user interaction. However, VirusScan Mobile does not include firewall settings, nor does it quarantine detected files.
VirusScan Mobile protects your phone from attacks entering through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other entry methods. McAfee’s security protects not only the phone’s internal memory, but any accompanying memory cards as well. McAfee secures the phone by automatically scanning and cleaning infected files intercepted from email, downloads, or other avenues.
McAfee VirusScan Mobile is relatively easy to use, but could be easier. There is no activity log to record scans, and you can’t schedule specific scans. The program is suited for mobile platforms, so it won’t hog resources, but McAfee admits that the software may potentially conflict with other phone applications.
Updates to McAfee Mobile are automatic and unobtrusive. Installation is also easy and straightforward. Users can even access McAfee’s mobile webpage directly from their phone and purchase and install the application directly to the device.
McAfee offers help and support for VirusScan Mobile, but it isn’t that great. General information and help specifically for ViusScan Mobile is pretty scarce online and does not include a user guide or manual. McAfee does offer email support and even online chat, but both of these outlets simply suggested we call their phone support for any questions about VirusScan Mobile.
McAfee VirusScan Mobile is ok, but not compared to our higher ranked mobile security software. McAfee does run on both the Windows Mobile and Symbian operating systems. However, for better protection and features, we suggest you look elsewhere.
