Protection for your mobile phone through SimWorks Anti-Virus is decent at best, but lacks the additional features and functions that would make this software really worthwhile. SimWorks Anti-Virus only works on phones running the Symbian operating system, and is solely antivirus protection rather than complete security.
Anti-Virus from SimWorks is primarily an antivirus solution to protect your phone from known viruses such as Cabir (a, b and c), Mosquito dialer trojan, and the Skulls trojan, and a variety of other known trojans. And while SimWorks does well what it sets out to do, it is limited in its scope. SimWorks does not offer firewall protection, nor does it incorporate tools to reduce mobile spam.
The program does run in real-time for consistent coverage. SimWorks Anti-Virus starts up automatically when your phone is turned on. Users can also run a manual scan at any time. And you don’t have to worry if you buy a new phone during your year subscription to SimWorks; you can transfer Anti-Virus to the new phone (as long as it also runs on the Symbian OS).
The SimWorks interface is straightforward and makes for an easy to use program, even on the constraints of a mobile phone. SimWorks includes a viewable log in their Anti-Virus program, so you can see what scans have taken place. And because SimWorks is exclusively designed for mobile devices, the program won’t take up a lot of memory and slow your phone down.
Installing SimWorks to your phone is easy. In fact, you can even transfer Anti-Virus to a new phone if/when you buy one. The installation is facilitated by a PC application, but they can also be received directly by your phone wirelessly.
Unfortunately, updates of virus definitions and signatures aren’t updated automatically to your phone wirelessly. When updates occur, they are made available online.
SimWorks is seriously lacking in the help and support section for their product. Telephone support is not available, nor is it possible to contact customer service online with direct chat. We were unable to find any online user manual, or even a FAQs section. And while they do claim email support, the question we sent was never responded to.
SimWorks isn’t a bad protective measure for shielding your phone from known threats, but it doesn’t have enough oomph to really make it a competitor for mobile security. We highly suggest looking into more thorough and secure solutions, including Kaspersky Mobile Security, BullGuard Mobile Antivirus, or Norton Smartphone Security.
